Hello believing blogosphere. Had this on my heart for about two weeks now. What I want to write about is the multiplicity of God. In speaking about man we commonly associate with words like: polarity and duality; saying that man is either this or that. But in the Word of God we find of one such instance where Christ is both man and God. Wholly both, in the Gospel of 'both'. So this begs the question- what else is both out there? Or better yet, what about more?
The Bible tells us of numerous examples of the character of God- faithful, righteous, gentle, humble, loving, jealous to name just a few. We oftentimes wonder how someone can be jealous and yet righteous, humble yet holy, or any combination of these characteristics. This is our God after all. He's capable of being all of it, all at the same time, while we here live lives where only some of those character traits may arise at any given moment. We're created in God's likeness, that's why we have these emotions. It would be incorrect to say that God doesn't have emotions, if we were created in His image. He does have emotions, and has them to the fullest, hence the title of this post being multiplicity (being made of multiple diverse elements).
Push on forwards and dig deeper. If God is wholly capable of being all of that at the same time then think about how He reacts to any one individual event in our life. If one person is struggling with the loss of a dear family member, will the Lord not empathize with him? And if one person is rejoicing over a triumph leading a new believer to Christ, will the Lord not be greatly gladdened as well? Lastly, if yet another person is squandering his gifts (via prodigal son methods for example), will not the Lord feel sorrow for him? The thing we cannot wrap our heads around is simply this: At any given moment God is experiencing with us the life that we live out on this earth, sharing in our victories, losses, and even our deaths, from the plane of creation all the way to heaven or hell.
This is God we're talking about. He cannot ignore the pain, the suffering and the heartache that happens every second on this planet. That would be unfitting with his character. Instead He can only continue to love us all, even those who He knows will never turn to him. He can only love us because He knows He will have to 'live with himself' to put up with his emotions (a human analogy, bear with me). Just imagine the grasp of dealing with all this in a single minute and your mind will be boggled. Just imagine God doing it throughout all eternity. Oh, how He loves, indeed.
